Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is a Washington D.C.-based American TV journalist, anchor, and commentator. Mitchell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a degree from the department of English Literature. In the year 1967, Mitchell was hired as a reporter at KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. In 1976 she was a part of the CBS-affiliated WDVM-TV situated in Washington DC (then WTOP). In Washington the following year, she was appointed general correspondent for NBC News a year later. Since 1981 she began covering the White House. In 1988 she was promoted to chief journalist for Congress. In 1992, she was named chief White House Correspondent and in 1994 was appointed chief foreign affairs reporter at NBC News. Mitchell participated on the TV show Meet the Press and also hosted the show. Mitchell was on the panel at the 1988 debate between George Bush & Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married with Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government to recognize her excellence in the field of journalism. In 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her contributions to protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell reported on for the White House first for NBC News between 1981-1988, during the time of Ronald Reagan's two term as president. Mitchell was a reporter on a range of interesting stories including the Iran-contra scandal and tax reform. She traveled alongside Ronald Reagan in numerous visits to international summits, and also reported extensively.
